Non-Potential AR Structure
| There is nothing potential-looking about the magnetic field structure of AR 10940 as it nears the limb. Where Hinode/XRT sees a detailed sigmoid composed of discontinuous, distinguishable threads highly interwoven with the surrounding plasma, Yohkoh only saw a continuous, S-shaped formation. Yohkoh S-shaped formations were extensively studied by Canfield et al. (1996, 1998, 1999) and by Rust & Kumar (1996). |
