On July 22, 2009, a total eclipse of the Sun was visible from
within a narrow corridor traversing half of Earth. The pass of
the Moon's umbral shadow crossed many Asian countries and
then the Pacific Ocean where the maximum duration of totality
reached 6 minutes 39 seconds. It was the longest total solar
eclipse during 21th century and will not be surpassed until
June, 2132. In space, the Hinode XRT has successfully taken
images of this Solar eclipse, which was a partial eclipse from the
satellite's point of view.. The above photo shows one of the
eclipse images, taken at 00:56 UT, Jul. 22, 2009.
