XRT observed this beautiful eruption and M1 flare from active region 11343 on November 9th, 2011. The lefthand movie, shown in red, was taken using the Al-poly filter and is zoomed out a bit from the one on the right to capture fainter structures away from the flare core. Al-poly is used for this because it's sensitive to somewhat cooler temperatures than the Al-med filter displayed in blue. Al-poly captures light from plamsa at around 7,000,000 Kelvin, while Al-med shows material roughly twice as hot. However, both filters are sensitive to a broad range of temperatures with some overlap between them. Keywords: CME, Flare, Temperature Structure Filters: Al_poly, Al_med |
