Small Active Region

A small active region approaches the west limb of the Sun early in the morning of December 8th. It is a magnetically simple active region, only an alpha spot. We can see small loops close to the surface under a canopy of bright diffuse corona. A flare happens, saturating the images, and the canopy begins to grow and sway. Microflares cause the movie to flicker as they pop off like firecrackers. Later, on the left side of the active region, a dark band forms and looks like it crosses the canopy. Near the end of the movie, just above the dark band, a long, bright, loop wraps itself around the entire region, disappearing behind the limb.
