A Tiny Sigmoid Erupted in Obscurity ...

The Sun is quiet these months. The most recent C-class flare we had was about two months ago (C2.0 on 2019 May 15). But this does not mean the Sun is dead quiet: Polar jets are still launching vigorously. Filaments sometimes show wriggle and lift-off. Even small scale flares are occurring.

On July 14, we observed a tiny sigmoid eruption from the active region, AR12744. Although this event did not contribute to a notable enhancement of the GOES/XRS flux, the sigmoid erupted at around 00:30 UT. The eruption was triggered by a jet from a nearby bright point that happened around 22:38 UT on the previous day (7/13). Cusp-shaped post flare loops developed for several hours after the eruption. This is the same sequence of events we often observe in the flares from larger sigmoids.
