Sigmoid Eruption
These four images show the evolution of a sigmoid in an old remnant. At the begining, we see two sets of discontinuous loops, which is shown in the top left panel. A very thin S-shape loop starts to appear between the two sets of loops at around 12:11 UT on Feb 11, which can be seen in the top panel on the right. At around 18:00 UT on Feb 11, a dark S shows up in this region (see the bottom left panel). Does this dark S indicate where the filament is? Or why can we see this dark S structure? This sigmoid starts to erupt around 06:21 UT on Feb 12. A series of expanding enlongated loops appear after the eruption, as can be seen in the bottom right panel. Is this evolution of the sigmoid consistent with the current theory?
