Turbulent Times

As people all across the Earth are dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, our Sun continues to work as normal. The Sun is moving away from the period of minimum activity as energetic and interesting events become more and more common.

The above image and video comes from XRT during observations of Active Region 12759 that formed on the Sun near the end of March 2020. The video captures the AR during a time of increased activity within the region that leads up to a period of minor A-class events and a long-duration B1.6 event that eventually occurs on April 9th (Not shown in the above video). A small curl can be seen to develop at the base of the AR before the region expands in size and increases in magnetic activity level.

The XRT team would like to send our best wishes to everyone around the world. We appreciate your interest in our work and hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during these turbulent times!
