19 Years of Hinode/XRT Observations

On September 23, 2006, Hinode's X-Ray Telescope (XRT) began its mission of exploring the Sun in X-rays. Now, 19 years later, XRT continues to provide a one-of-a-kind view of our star.

XRT has captured countless solar phenomena from powerful flares and massive CMEs to delicate coronal jets and filaments enabling breakthrough discoveries in solar physics. It has advanced our understanding of the dynamic Sun and its impact on the solar system, while uniting scientists, engineers, and institutions around the world in a truly international effort.

This video showcases a series of synoptic images taken throughout the mission, alongside reflections from a few of the people who continue to operate and support Hinode/XRT today.
