2009 March 31

3 days in the life of an Active Region (click on image to see movie)
XRT has been observing this active region, one of the few in this quiet period of the Sun's activity cycle, using the thin-Be filter which is most sensitive to hot plasma (with temperature of a few million degrees). The active region is observed from shortly after its appearance on the west limb for several days. The loop structures undergo significant brightenings, and changes in their shapes and connections one to the other.
