Northern Coronal Cavities (click image to see corresponding movie)

Above is a short synoptic movie running over four consecutive days between June 3 and June 7, 2010, showing two nice filament cavities associated with two prominent polar crown filaments in the Northern hemisphere. The cavities look like darker long extended areas when in projection on the disk, and like donut shaped round voids when observed on the limb of the Sun. All three instruments on Hinode collaborated in observing the larger polar crown filament in search for interesting dynamics and evolution in the filament and the coronal cavity above it.
