A Tiny Coronal Cavity

A few months after Hinode was launched, on 18 March 2007, the XRT was observing the north pole of the Sun when this dark feature was observed. The Al-poly filter was used to take these images so it is not likely that the dark feature represents cool plasma. It is most likely a tiny X-Ray coronal cavity.

An X-Ray void could occur due to the presence of coronal magnetic fields.
