A major part of the Hinode XRT mission is to develop a better understanding of solar flares. To help facilitate this research, the XRT team created a catalog of all of the flares that XRT has observed during its (almost) 10 year mission. These images are a visual representation of the amount of solar flares that XRT has observed throughout the years. To learn more about how these images were created, visit the 2015 August 4 XPOW. To learn more about how flares are classified, watch the accompanying movie. To view more solar flares, and perhaps find your favorite, visit our recently updated flare catalog.
The flare image history images are provided by Greg Woelki and K. Reeves.
