Sometimes your location determines whether or not you can see a
solar eclipse. In this case, the Hinode / XRT saw the moon
pass in front of the Sun, but there was no eclipse visible from any
inhabited portion of the Earth at this time. The sharp edge of the
Moon provides a perfect tool for measuring the image quality of the
XRT.
