Flaring Loops in Active Region 11755

Here we have a flaring arcade on the outskirts of Active Region 11755. The movie takes place over about an hour, between 11 - 12 UT on June 18th, 2013. Click the animation for a movie file that includes time stamps and better time resolution. Following transient brightenings in the loop system that connects to the main active region complex, the arcade in the upper-left begins to brighten and expand at about 11:33 UT. Note the apparent twisting motion that occurs just after this time, above the black smudge on the image. (Incidentally, this smudge is from a dust speck that has been on the detector since launch and has since grown from further contamination. A cosmetic correction is difficult in this particular case because the background is so variable.) At 11:42, a jet occurs in the brightening region. Keywords: Flare, Loop Expansion Filters: Ti_poly |
