The active region, AR12473, produced several mid-sized flares last week.
The region rotated onto the disk on the 22nd and within a few days a bright sigmoid (S-shaped) formed. Hinode XRT observed this active region for most of the week and caught
several flares including the events shown above.
Active regions with sigmoids are more likely to produce Earthward flares and coronal mass ejections so solar scientists are especially interested in studying these events.
The XRT data for this active region will be combined with magnetic field data to form a model of erupting sigmoids.
