Happy Winter Solstice

The shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere falls on 21 December 2016. This day also marks the first day of winter.

The seasons are caused by the Earth's tilt relative to the Sun. When the northern hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun, the northern latitudes experience less sunlight.

To learn more about Earth's seasons visit University of Nebraska-Lincoln Astronomy website.
