A few days ago, Hinode XRT was observing the western half of the Sun when a seemingly quiet region suddenly light up in X-rays. The sudden increase in X-rays
was caused by a small filament eruption.
The filament didn't have a chance to leave the Sun though. The magnetic field holding down the filament was too strong and when
the filament hit the magnetic loops it was slowly vaporized into million degree plasma. Making it a very effective X-ray filament zapper!
