October 2022 Eclipses

On the morning of October 25th, 2022 a partial solar eclipse was visible from Europe, the Middle East, parts of Asia and Africa. For XRT, 3 seperate eclipses were visible over the span of about 4 hours. During the 1st and 3rd of these eclipses, the moon only passed partially in front of the Sun. However, on the 2nd pass, the Moon was directly between XRT and the Sun and almost fully blocks it out. The central picture above shows the peak of this annular eclipse as only the solar limb and extended corona are visible.

XRT is able to see multiple eclipses due to the geometry of being in orbit around Earth while the moon is passing between the Sun. this gives us the opprotunity to see the Sun blocked out by the Moon multiple times and results in amazing pictures like the ones above!
