This composite image of the full disk Sun a few days ago shows 13 named active regions concentrated about 250 arcsec from the equator of the sun on either side. Just a day before this collection of images, an X1.1 flare was seen on the south eastern limb of the sun which peaked at 17:09:00 on the 20th of June. This flare originated from AR13341, which went on to produce several more M class flares. The sun has been pretty active as of late and the Solar REU students at the CfA are excited to see what other events will occur this summer. Composite images are a combination of short and long exposure times that result in highlighting subtle details without causing oversaturation in the centers of active regions. This particular composite was a collection of synoptic images taken in the Be-Thin filter. Look at the beautiful swirls of our sun! Keywords: Full Disk, Synoptic Filters: Thin-Be |
