Lassoing an Active Region

Hot X-ray loops sidle toward the active region sigmoid in AR12491 lassoing the sigmoid via magnetic reconnection. The recently emerged region, just south of Hinode XRT's field-of-view, slowly extends two rope-like loops that eventually wrap around both ends of AR12491. The two regions then begin their tug of war.
