Magnetic Domes, Loops, and Lines

Near the beginning of this movie, Hinode XRT observes an interesting loop dome that forms just above the east limb. A small flare happens behind the limb and hot X-rays are ejected along magnetic field lines, briefly highlighting their structure. Immediately after, you eye is drawn toward the disk where several streaks of bright X-rays shoot away from the Sun. These X-ray jets are also caused by magnetic reconnection and by the looks of it, these magnetic structures are very different. |
