>> Subject: 2008 Joint Assembly meets the press
>>
>> Dear 2008 Joint Assembly Program Committee Member,
>>
>> My name is Peter Weiss. I am AGU's public information officer. One
>> of my primary duties is to organize press conferences at meetings.
>> That's why I'm writing to you now.
>>
>> Next week, I'll be dropping by the program committee meeting to
>> ask you for your help to identify sessions to highlight at press
>> conferences in Fort Lauderdale this May. As you organize the
>> program for this year's meeting, I hope you will make a note of
>> any sessions that strike you as particularly important
>> scientifically, likely to attract the interest of the public, or
>> both.
>> Sometimes, it's hard to tell. So, if you have any inkling that a
>> session might be a candidate for a press conference, please
>> suggest it.
>> I welcome your suggestions at any time, but sooner is better. At
>> your committee meeting next week, I'll ask again for you to be on
>> the lookout for candidates. I will also send follow-up emails,
>> soliciting your suggestions.
>>
>> I have met many of you before, and will enjoy seeing familiar
>> faces again. Your help in planning for press conferences at
>> previous meetings was vital. I thank you for it. I also look
>> forward to meeting those members of this committee whom I haven't
>> previously met and to receiving their valuable suggestions.
>> See you soon!
>>
>> Respectfully yours,
>>
>> Peter
