Deep Observation of the Quiet Sun

Deep Observation of the Quiet Sun

Akatsuki (Planet-C) is a Venus-orbiting spacecraft launched in 2010 by JAXA to study the atmosphere of Venus. In August of 2019, the probe entered into conjunction with the Sun. During Akatsuki’s transit behind the Sun, a coordination was performed with Hinode to obtain information on the small-scale structures of plasma near the Sun.

Long exposures taken by XRT during this coordination reveal the complex solar structure present even during periods of extremely quiet sun.
