The Sun was quite energetic in October 2021. There were 6 M-class and 1 X-class flares reported in this month. Two regions (AR12882 and AR12887) were the main contributors during this period of high activity. Appropriate for the month of October, they both evolve in a spooky way during their disk passage. AR12882 showed off its skull-like appearance with several explosions from the left eye socket. AR12887, on the other hand, countered with more explosive events (including the second X-class flare in the Solar Cycle 25 on 10/28) from its body shaped like a burning man (or woman). Click the image above to watch both regions, or click the links in the text to watch each separately. Their spirit of the Halloween month was quite something!
