3 Years of Solar Cycle 25 in 3 Minutes

In a previous XPOW, we took a look at the first 2.5 years of solar cycle 25. This time we take a look at the Sun using our Al_mesh filter. The last 8 months have been very active on the Sun, and adding those time periods to the summary videos shows just how active things are getting as we move deeper into solar cycle 25.

The image on the left shows the quiet sun at the start of the solar cycle and the image on the right is a look at one of the peak days of activity we have seen so far in this cycle. Notice how many more active regions are visible in February 2023 comapred to Febraury 2020! Depending on when solar maximum ultimately occurs, we can expect to see another 1-2 years of continued increase in solar activity before we reach the decline phase of cycle 25.
